The CUC stands for the Comite de Unidad Compesina. It was a group created by the common people to organize and fight back against the land owners. Even after being kidnapped and tortured, the leaders of the CUC continued to fight for what the people deserved and rightfully owned.
2. Menchu articulates in Chapter 16, "What would happen if we rose up against the rich?" Think about that question. The potential power and fear contained within those words. Why did no one respond? Do you think you would have responded? Why or why not?
I don't think anyone had a proper response for Menchu because they have never really thought about the situation that was being brought up. The Ladinos were superior and that was that at the time. I don't think i'd be able to respond right away to this question either. I'd have to think deeply because a question like this doesn't have a simple answer.
3. Menchu begins Chapter 17 with another Popol Vuh reading"... They began to fufill the destiny which was concealed in the marrow of their bones..." What does this quotation play in terms of the chapter?
The quote means the people are finally standing up for what is right. They are taking into action what needs to be done and doing it. They are fed up the Ladinos pushing them around, so they are starting to set up defenses such as traps, escape routes, and organizing how they'd attack the soldiers.
4. Menchu speaks in detail about Judith, Moses, and David in Chapter 18. Choose on of the three and explain their example.
In the story 'Exodus', Moses led his people, who were also being treated terribly by their king, to freedom. He did everything he could and in the end it all worked out. He is a good role model for the leaders of the community to lead their people to freedom.
